Tattoo Aftercare

For a Beautiful Healing of Your Tattoo at NKINK Tattoo Studio in Bern

Congratulations on your new tattoo from NKINK Tattoo Studio in Bern!

Your beautiful new artwork is an investment, and proper aftercare is absolutely essential for its longevity and vibrancy.

To ensure your tattoo heals beautifully and looks its best for years to come, please follow these instructions meticulously — they are tailored to the specific wrapping method I used for your tattoo.

General Tattoo Aftercare Tips (Applicable to All Methods)

Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before touching your tattoo. Use only the products I recommend. Avoid harsh soaps, scented lotions, or other unapproved products. Resist the urge to pick or scratch your tattoo — this can lead to infection and scarring. Protect your tattoo from sun exposure at all times with a high SPF 50 sunscreen once it’s fully healed. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about your tattoo’s healing process.

🕓 Book your free follow-up appointment 5–6 weeks after your tattoo session.

This allows me to check the healing and perform any necessary touch-ups.

Please note: if you miss this free follow-up window, any later touch-up sessions will be charged at CHF 100.– per hour.

So please come back for your control appointment!

Option 1: Transparent Folia with Soaking Pad Aftercare

Immediately After Leaving the Studio:

The transparent folia and soaking pad are applied to protect your fresh tattoo during your journey home.

You can sleep with this wrapping on for the first night, but it must be changed the morning after you wake up.

Day 1 (Morning):

Wash your hands thoroughly. Carefully remove the transparent folia and soaking pad. Gently rinse the tattoo with lukewarm water. Wash the tattoo with a gentle, fragrance-free antibacterial foam soap using circular motions. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry with clean paper towels. Apply a thin layer of the recommended tattoo cream. Apply a new soaking pad and re-wrap with fresh transparent kitchen folia. Change this wrapping every 6–12 hours.

Day 2:

Repeat the cleaning and wrapping process at least twice daily (morning and evening).

It’s advisable to sleep with the folia on for 2–3 nights.

Day 3 to 2 Weeks:

Once the tattoo stops weeping fluids, you can stop wrapping.

Continue to wash twice daily and apply cream after each wash.

2 Weeks to 5–6 Weeks:

Switch to a fragrance-free moisturizing lotion and protect the tattoo with SPF 50+.

You can resume normal activities and sports gradually.

Option 2: Kitchen Folia (Without Soaking Pad) Aftercare

Immediately After Leaving the Studio:

The kitchen folia protects your tattoo on the way home.

At Home:

Wash hands thoroughly. Remove the folia within 3–4 hours. Clean with lukewarm water and antibacterial soap. Pat dry and apply a thin layer of cream. Reapply fresh folia. Repeat this every 4–6 hours on the first day.

Day 1–2:

Continue cleaning and wrapping every 4–6 hours on the first day, then every 6–12 hours the next.

It’s advisable to sleep with the wrap on for 2–3 nights.

Day 3 to 2 Weeks:

Stop wrapping once no fluids appear. Continue cleaning twice daily and apply cream after each wash.

2 Weeks to 5–6 Weeks:

Switch to fragrance-free lotion and gradually resume normal activities. Always protect your tattoo with SPF 50+.

Option 3: Second Skin Folia with Soaking Pad Aftercare

Immediately After Leaving the Studio:

This special wrap should stay on until the next morning.

If you notice irritation (redness, itching, burning), remove it carefully under running water and switch to the Kitchen Folia (Without Soaking Pad) routine.

Day 1 (Morning):

Wash your hands. Remove the wrap gently under running water. Clean the tattoo with mild soap, rinse, and pat dry. Let the skin air dry for 10–15 minutes. Clean the surrounding skin with alcohol pads. Reapply a new piece of second skin folia smoothly.

Day 2–7:

Leave it on for a minimum of 3 and maximum of 7 days.

Day 3–7 to 2 Weeks:

After removing, wash twice daily and apply cream after each wash.

2 Weeks to 5–6 Weeks:

Switch to a regular lotion and resume normal routines gradually.

Always use SPF 50+ when exposed to the sun.

Option 4: Second Skin Folia (Without Soaking Pad) Aftercare

Immediately After Leaving the Studio:

This folia is designed to stay for 1–7 days.

If fluid buildup occurs, change the wrapping.

If irritation appears, remove it carefully under running water and follow the Kitchen Folia (Without Soaking Pad) routine.

Changing the Second Skin (If Needed):

Wash your hands. Remove under running water. Clean with mild soap, rinse, and pat dry. Let the skin air dry 10–15 minutes. Clean the surrounding skin with alcohol pads. Reapply a fresh piece smoothly.

Day 2–7:

Leave the folia on for 3–7 days.

Day 3–7 to 2 Weeks:

After removal, clean and moisturize twice daily.

2 Weeks to 5–6 Weeks:

Switch to regular lotion and resume your normal daily routine carefully.

Always protect the tattoo with SPF 50+.

Healing and Potential Reactions: What to Expect

A new tattoo is a controlled wound — mild redness, swelling, tenderness, or itching are normal in the first few days.

You might also notice a small amount of clear fluid (plasma), which is part of natural healing.

Possible Reactions

Allergic Reactions: Can occur from ink, products, or bandages. Symptoms: intense itching, bumps, hives, excessive redness, or spreading rash. Severe reactions need immediate medical attention.

Tape / Second Skin Allergies: Some adhesives contain irritants. Please inform me of known allergies! Even medical-grade wraps can cause redness or irritation. Frequent wrap changes prevent moisture buildup and bacterial growth.

Infections: Signs include increased pain, swelling, warmth, pus, or fever. Seek medical help immediately if you suspect infection.

Excessive Inflammation: If swelling or pain persists beyond a few days, contact me or a doctor.

Swollen Leg or Water Retention (Edema): Some swelling is normal, but swelling away from the tattoo area may need medical attention.

Dermatitis: Skin inflammation can occur due to sensitivity to creams or soaps.

✅ Your tattoo is a lifetime artwork — and proper care makes all the difference.
